Hermitage vs. LD
The 2009 Lee –Davis varsity football team started the year off against regional number one Hermitage High School .The Confederates opened the season with a touchdown drive highlighted by a huge opening kick return by Will Connerley, a long reception by receiver T.J. Harvey, and a short touchdown by running back Tucker Walton.
The Lee- Davis defense started out strong with a recovered fumble by sophomore Calvin Davis. The fumble recovery led to another methodical Confederate touchdown drive, putting Lee – Davis up two scores by the end of the first quarter.
The Panthers got on the board in the second quarter and were still down by six, with plenty of time before the half time whistle. The next confederate drive ended with seven points, but it was for the Panthers who intercepted a pass and returned it to take the lead at the half 14-13.
In the third quarter the Confederates started where they had left off with another huge completion to receiver T.J. Harvey, but the Panther defense held the Confederates in check, stopping the offense on the two yard line for a turnover on downs. After a scoreless third quarter, the Panthers had the advantage over Lee Davis 14-13. Hermitage scored early in the fourth quarter putting the Confederates down a touchdown. And all thought the Panthers couldn’t put another score on the board, their defense held strong with a fourth quarter interception and recovered fumble. Which brought the season opener to an end, 21-13 Hermitage.
